Is anyone working with the test publishers to offer guidance on virtual test proctoring?

Judy, why are the feds so concerned about making classroom and distance learners two separate groups?

We tried to pilot Best Plus post testing through WebEx and the state told us the publisher said we couldn't utilize.

Tom - TABE specifically offered an update on virtual testing during their monthly call yesterday.

TABE or CASAS is not virtual

TABE 11 & 12 does not have virtual. Were told DRC is working on TABE CLAS-E virtual assessment.

CASAS just sent out an email saying they are working on it

They are working on it but nothing is yet approved both on a policy and technical (software) level. They did say a more formal update would be released soon.

None of the publishers are ready to go virtual although they are working on solutions and hope to come out with guidance very soon.

CAL has said BEST Plus can be given virtually and apparently has some guidelines available or available soon. They've said BEST Literacy cannot.

attainment of a GED (or other HSE equivalency) is an MSG

CAL is working on offering virtual BEST Plus 2.0 testing with local staff who have been certified to administer prior’s COVID.

Northstar can now be administered and proctored online, at a distance.

Unfortunately people can't do GED testing right now, at least in MN where everything is closed.

There really ought to be a third category - blended or hybrid. Because most learners do best when doing a combo.

I am not aware that adult education programs have access to MSGs through IETs... I thought that Industry recognized credentials could count but I am not aware that they do at least in IL - even within IETs...could you expand on that a bit?

GED has gone to virtual proctoring worldwide, I believe

I'm just curious to know what virtual proctoring looks like. I'm in correctional education, so we don't see that.

Google has a virtual proctoring for its certification programs and the test taker must be viewable at all times to the procter.

Apparently testing is still occurring in correctional facilities, according to DRC.

I have 2 of my own children at ourlocal community college, and they are actively using virtual proctoring for the rest of the spring semester for regular classes.

I’m not sure how testing could be done in correctional settings right now unless the CO’s are administering tests!

College Board AP exams are going to be virtually proctored also.

Really having trouble hearing

Some students are saying they are afraid of Zoom classes because of hearing about negative infiltration or spamming so to speak. Could anyone address this?

The CASAS website states they are working on remote testing, but the timeline is uncertain.

I’ve heard Zoom is working at adjusting their privacy settings to address the zoombombing problems that have been happening

What platform do you use to introduce the hyperdoc?

There have been more and more reports about Zoom hacking, see article today in NYT. I talked to two friends yesterday who had experienced this, tho not in educational settings.

"Zoombombing" is a real and growing concern. If you can use other platforms, look for something that has end-to-end encryption.

Zoom suggests making your meeting private and requiring a password to avoid the hacking

Judy - we use hyperdocs for distance learning in Louisiana and validate attendance hours using the “teacher verification” model

One way to address this “zoombombing” is to be sure your invitation includes a password

so you have the class on zoom and then open up wakelet?

You can also then lock the zoom meeting room once all your participants are logged in

Zoom has some other security and privacy concerns as well. Some IT people refer to it as malware, frankly, because it has security holes that allow bad actors to take control of your webcam. I prefer other platforms.

Ashly, in your F2F classes I believe you were also able to have each student do a Hyperdoc. Can you also do this now online, i.e. individualizing? If so, how?

Ashly opened the hyperdoc and shared her screen. She prompted students to answer the questions and then she typed in the answer. She was like the scribe and the class completed the hyperdoc together as a group.

Nice to have a LMS though to keep the class organized and for students to have order and visit materials again. Can link Google Docs into LMS such as Canvas (embed) and have students work there.

I've used Go-to-Training (which is kind of pricy, and has some technical issues but security is not one of them) and Google Meet. WhatsApp is very secure.

When you assign a Google Doc in Google Classroom, you can set it so every student gets their own copy.

I recall being trained in and using HyperDoc years ago, is this the same HyperDoc?

If you put the link (HyperDoc) into a Canvas page “window” I was told that the students stay in the Canvas class and their time will be counted in the class.

Texas does report hours for distance learning using approved distance learning curriculum. As for direct hours, it will need to be on a one to one like in Google Hangouts.
