Even just getting audio to work is a hurdle.
Rosemarie Doe
36:34
Yes, I could write a book.
Jen Vanek

Yes.. We need Ebony here to hold this together!

41:11
Everyone needs time to think when asked a question. Especially if asked "Are there any questions?
David Rosen
42:58
Ashly, from your experience are there ways that team teaching helps to increase students’ engagement in learning?
Yvonne van Bodengraven
45:35
This might be a question for the end of the presentation - it is not relevANT TO THE CURRENT DISCUSSION
Yvonne van Bodengraven
46:45
My agency is ver concerned about the privacy and security of our volunteer tutors. Did you create a set of policies and procedures for the distance learning?
Jen Vanek
49:36
Other questions for these two presenters?
Victoria Neff
50:32
Can you share about the game-based learning strategies? Are they all done in the class or as homework/outside of class or a combination? I know you said that you would share more, but curious if you can share more here!
Victoria Neff
50:47
*share more in the breakout discussion
David Rosen
53:12
What would you like to continue from your remote teaching once you can do in-person teaching again?
Denise Myers
53:48
I have been wishing that I could find a volunteer to help me with my virtual teaching.
Claire Gilliam
55:19
https://quizizz.com/ is my favorite! Very engaging for students.
Gareth Wingfield
55:42
And so easy to make quizzes by using questions already made by other teachers.
mina johan
55:50
Q: were there any outcomes from the distance learning experiences that stood out and perhaps surprised you? interesting things that turn out differently (good or bad) than expected when planning the sessions? (eg. like the example of how well some kids responded to it)
Edie Lantz Leppert
56:23
We are finding volunteers who love team teaching via Zoom. Some have found their place in the support role during Zoom as well as feeding notes and class materials into the Google classrooms. These are volunteers who were less secure in their facilitation skills in person but love being part of the Zoom classes in a new way.
Denise Myers
56:57
It does take quite a bit of planning and posting of lessons etc to have a meaningful class session.
Denise Myers
58:10
Do you know of anyone (potential volunteers) I could reach out to for assistance?
Denise Myers
01:00:10
Yes! Thank you so much
Vilvi Vannak
01:00:27
i use 100% volunteers-they decide zoom, or whatsapp or whatever. GREat
Yvonne van Bodengraven
01:01:51
Vilvi - How do you protect your volunteers’ privacy and security? Do you have procedures, policies, rules for student online behavior>
Vilvi Vannak
01:04:05
it's one-to-one. The only protection at all for us is to let our adult ESL students know that, if they misbehave in any way, they lose their tutor.
Jen Vanek
01:06:20
Please consider questions about this interesting use of Facebook — are you doing something similar with social media?
Denise Myers
01:06:46
I imagine some sort of contract could be helpful. In it spell out exactly what you expect of the students and the volunteer. Maybe by using a Google Form? I haven’t done a contract for my students, but I may create one soon.
Jen Vanek
01:07:34
It’s looking like we should have a webinar on the topic of integrating volunteer tutors into remote instruction models.
Denise Myers

Jen Vanek
01:08:38
Ok.. now on to FB and learner engagement. What Qs do you have?
Victoria Neff
01:08:57
LCNV in VA does amazing work with volunteers -- would recommend them as potential presenter
Rosemarie Doe
01:10:13
Does anyone have suggestions regarding outreach to adults that are not tech savvy?.. no email. I work at a skills training organization teaching basic computer and job search skills.
Laurice Hoffman
01:10:34
Can they go through the steps of setting up the FB live session via zoom?
Jen Vanek
01:11:22
Yes… Laurice. Great idea for the breakout session.
Cheri Shaw
01:11:28
Are your groups private or public on Facebook?
Victoria Neff
01:11:53
Question for the presenters -- what training (if any) did you have to provide for the live closed captioning in Zoom? And then question for the group -- Curious if anyone has anyone ever used the third-party live closed captioning option offered through Zoom and what their experience was.
Denise Myers
01:12:23
How do the students get to FB? Must they have a FB account?
David Rosen
01:12:29
Rosemarie, some programs address needs of students who do not have Internet access using a combination of hard copy materials and telephone - for example teaching basic literacy, computer skills, and more. It is an art to do this well, but some programs have mastered it.
David Rosen
01:14:19
You can offer group career training or job finding classes using Freeconferencecall.com (It is free.)
ashly winkle
01:14:59
You may have already covered this... How many students do you have in the group?
Jen Vanek
01:15:12
@ Cheri — I see in the screenshot that the group is private
Cheri Shaw
01:15:33
ah yes Jen, thank you!
Victoria Neff
01:16:23
We've seen in some of our programs that learners do not necessarily get FB notifications pushed to their phone if it is disabled on their settings (of course, if they log in, they will see notification) but not necessarily get it to their phone -- do you run into this issue and do you provide support to learners on how to enable notifications?
Jen Vanek
01:17:45
Can you share your YouTube Channel link?
ashly winkle
01:18:26
I love that you became Youtubers!!
Denise Myers
01:22:30
Is all teaching done on Facebook?
Laura Medina
01:23:44
Hello Denise, BSP also uses zoom and google classroom to deliver courses
ashly winkle
01:24:20
What made you choose FB? Was it something your found a lot of your students were already using?
Denise Myers
01:25:38
Thank you. Would most lessons be on YouTube and Facebook simultaneously?
Laura Medina
01:26:31
BSP staff creates youtube vidoes on different topics and then share them on Facebook, on the app and also directly text the link to students.
Carly Jardinier
