42:53
Hi, Tiffany - will you be able to share the handout on the App Goals you developed (now on screen)? that would be great

43:47
I think you can find it here: http://bit.ly/TchrVer

43:53
In reviewing the Toggl website, there are costs. Do they offer free accounts for educators?

44:05
Thank you!

44:22
Thanks Kyle!

44:24
Hi Arezoo Miller from Silicon Valley Adult Education " Thank you.

44:29
Can Hyperdocs be used on smartphones?

46:02
How easy it is to use Zoom to talk to students who are on their phones while they do work in something else, like a hyperdoc

46:18
You sound like Nan. :)

46:26
Hello from Western Mass. Jewish Family Service refugee resettlement/ESOL/pre-employment program.

46:30
Hyperdocs tend to have a range of different activities. They might be housed/launched from a Google Doc, a tool such as Wakelet, or authors. So, I think ideally the entire hyperdoc might be on a computer….but the various activities within (videos, articles, Quizziz activities, etc) can be linked, many of which are mobile friendly.

46:49
pretty easy to use zoom and other docs. students can zoom on phone.

47:37
Hallelujah, Nan!

47:48
Do students need to sign up for zoom, or can they just follow the link? Do they need an app?

47:57
Greetings everyone..Holly Parker from Chicago City Colleges ADED

48:33
This is fabulous! Great work Nan. This is so relevant for me.

48:43
In Zoom classes, in general they are not doing a Hyperdoc activity at the same time. Right now, teachers in my center are using Zoom class sessions to do ESL conversation. Hyperdoc type activities would be done outside of the live session.

48:46
Please everyone stay muted at this time. Thank you!

49:34
All our students need is the Zoom app and the meeting id - they don't need to create an account.

50:03
Are phone numbers private on WhatsApp? We have to worry about sharing phone numbers.

50:07
WhatsApp is widely used outside of the US

50:15
Thank you Julie!!

50:56
Hyperdocs are in a Google Doc, so they can be viewed on phones. Depending on the activites, they can use their phone to complete them. My classes are digital literacy classes, so they are completing computer based activities - word processing, spreadsheets, etc. So they need a computer to do those.

50:59
WhatsApp is encrypted end to end

51:33
You set up a private group, give it a name, and only members of the group see all the group messages, photos, etc.

51:56
My family uses it when one or more of us is overseas.

52:18
Thank you!

52:31
I've only ever used the free version of Toggl - it's been enough for my needs.

54:23
This is really great! It also has them using digital skills (taking photos, sharing photos) we know many of our learners are comfortable with :)

54:33
learner-centered!

55:02
Amazing lesson! Thank you.

55:15
She’s using WhatsApp on the computer?

55:51
You can go to web.whatsapp.com and scan the QR code with your phone to connect.

56:14
You need a valid phone number and the app on your phone to get started though.

56:27
how is attendance/participation in the WhatsApp compared to in-person classes?

56:47
every solutions has its pros and cons, but this seems quite promising for SLIFE online

57:27
I have done something similar, but my students starting sending videos and messages to each other and so I’m not sure how separate classwork and social connecting.

57:31
best examples I've seen on working with low level/non-literate students who are not tech savvy - terrific stance on working with refugees

57:33
Transformational Learning!!!!

57:43
Nan, I enjoyed hearing your processing! Thank you!

57:46
Thank you! Great ideas

Thanks to all, great food for thought!

59:49
Will a certificate of completion be sent to participants?

For session 1 it says the host has another meeting in progress.

01:00:52
There are several discussions now on LINCS Here is the link to one in the Integrating Technology group:https://community.lincs.ed.gov/discussion/preparing-and-offering-adult-basic-skills-online-during-pandemic#comment-28649

01:01:11
I’m going to try again.

01:02:20
I left this meeting. Tried to join the other, but ended up back here again. :/

01:02:22
Still not able to get into meeting room 1

01:02:31
Me either

01:02:36
I can't get into the other room either

01:02:47
can you put the link in the chat again? thank you

01:02:47
Same. Said host is in another meeting.

01:02:48
The link that was shared indicates that the account has another meeting in progress

01:02:49
I'm stuck too

01:02:51
It says the host is already running another meeting

01:02:51
Nan, Are you holding class at a particular time with all students on WhatsApp at the same time or are you just posting and people respond when they can?

01:02:57
Jen….Do you want me to create a new link?

01:03:05
Hi Kathleen :)

01:06:48
So, I am interested to hear from Nan because I am not a "techy" person that's my brother and sister. I am not familiar with using WhatsApp at all. I seems people go through how to use apps really fast and I don't really grasp how to use them.

01:07:02
Mario was

01:07:33
Nan?

01:07:36
Awkward

01:07:46
Will there be a time for participant questions?

01:08:18
Did the teacher verification breakout session not work?

01:08:24
Yes, there will be a time for participant questions.

01:08:26
I tried to get into the alternate meeting and it said it hadn't started yet. Does anyone have advice?

01:08:29
I wasn't able to get in.

01:09:00
sorry but what and how are QR codes used?

01:09:19
It says the host has another meeting in progress (both by phone and Zoom).

01:09:22
Is there a way to hide the student phone numbers on WhatsApp? To keep them private?

01:09:30
It may be helpful to have a separate webinar focused on using WhatsApp for the first time.

01:09:32
Do you have to use your regular cell phone number and not your Google Voice number?

01:09:57
We have been hosting statewide support webinars in Ohio for our adult practitioners. We use Zoom and have used the breakout rooms, but we have had participants self-identify if they want to go to the breakout room (use raise hand or yes function buttons); then the host manually selected those individuals to move over; this works pretty seamlessly, but does take a few minutes to compete selection process. We also set the breakout room timer so the room automatically closed after allotted time and moved everyone back into the main room.

01:10:11
How do you create a group in WhatsApp?

01:10:56
Hi Heather, QR codes are images that your phone’s camera can scan. It takes you right to a website without you having to type the website yourself.

01:11:07
I have used Whats App as well to direct them to a Google Classroom I set up assignments

01:11:40
oh, ok, I didn

01:12:11
try this again. I didn't know that.

01:12:14
But you CAN link WhatsApp to GoogleVoice numbers!!

01:12:57
Thanks Jessica

01:13:02
My office has done it successfully but I'm not exactly sure how

01:13:12
I might be able to ask though

01:13:15
Nan, I’m worried about socialization. Do you think we can encourage the creation of WhatsApp group for interactions among students?

01:13:19
I don't know if it works with WhatsApp, but on a regular call if you dial *67 before the number, it will show your # as private.

01:14:10
I have read conflicting reports about the security of whats app. My friends in the government will not use it

01:14:13
You can link what's app to a google voice number and you can have 2 what's app accounts on a phone

01:14:42
Jhon, I started the student WhatsApp group before I had any class content to share and people immediately started sending videos and hellos to each other.

01:14:45
Will there be a way we can get a copy of the notes/bullet-points for this discussion?

01:15:24
LOL - this is true about her!

01:16:17
I was about to ask about receiving the discussion/notes from this session....

01:16:21
Like the Bow Valley books, but making your OWN!!

01:16:25
I made a powerpoint, then recorded myself reading through it in Zoom, and posted the video on WhatsApp for my students to watch. It was great - and pretty easy, too.

01:16:44
Here are the notes!

01:16:46
So the videos are made inside WhatsApp itself? Or do you made the video on your phone and then upload it?

01:16:48
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LoF8BrR3goN6BETQoKMOfbxYxTGn2NVhX0YgUqmnj_I/edit?ts=5e7cf432

01:16:52
Well that answers that!

01:16:55
Instead of using What's App, could you use Jamboard in google to do the same thing?

01:17:03
I have students who are sending me photos of their writing assignments on WhatsApp. They don't have a computer or laptop so this is their only device.

01:17:30
It would be great to experience what Nan is explaining - with US on a WhatsApp call with her!

01:18:08
Will we be able to get a copy of the notes?

01:20:03
SO agree. This is a moment for us to connect and stay connected.

01:20:09
@ Susan - yes the recording and notes will be shared

01:20:18
Thank you!

01:20:31
Absolutely!

01:20:35
About how many students are in a class at a time with you, Nan? would a larger group of 20 or more be too big to manage at once?

01:20:36
Thank you!

01:20:55
I have a question but I don’t see the icon to raise my hand.

01:20:56
Also using zoom and I’m considering one level in what’s app and my higher level in zoom.

01:22:05
YEs, this is my concern. Thank you for explaining. Class size is a real limitation.

01:22:08
Can you use a desktop version of Whats App to make it easier to type?

01:22:26
Yes, Jen! There's a desktop app.

01:22:27
I have a keyboard to use myself, but many students don't.

01:22:31
Nan, since you are new to using WhatsApp in this way for instruction, can you tell us how you so quickly acquired these skills. I recall seeing your initial request for help on LINCS. Did yogurt help from your colleagues?

01:23:07
When did you start using WhatsApp during the crisis and how long did it take you to get it going at this time?

01:25:01
I think you can continue on with the social basis you have established and build in that. The social part is important too.

01:25:17
Just got back here. Will there be further discussion about teacher verification model?

01:25:33
How about one last question and then we do wrap up from the other group.

01:25:35
?

01:25:52
WhatsApp actually saves pics and videos into your camera roll on your phone.

01:26:01
That feature can be turned off

01:27:08
well-stated!

01:27:32
Thanks for the tip!

01:27:52
I'd call it digital resilience! Kudos to you, Nan, and all others who have jumped into the distance ed fray making do with the tools at your disposal.

01:28:12
Fabulous. Thanks everyone.

01:28:33
Thank you so much for sharing, Nan!

01:28:47
I was never able to get the teacher verification group to work.

01:29:00
Thank you.

01:29:10
Thank you

01:29:12
Thanks

01:29:15
Just wondered if you have access to Breakout rooms from Zoom?

01:29:26
We will share a recording of the 2nd groups discussion as well for those interested

01:29:39
Thanks!

01:29:40
Can you email the notes from the Teacher Verification group? I couldn't get there.

01:32:01
We will be sending out a recording of the TVM discussion soon. So sorry to those who were not able to get into the room!

01:32:02
Thanks Helaine!

01:32:05
Alright, I'm sorry but I have a meeting I need to join.

01:32:17
NH is all about local control and we have a policy where we respect the role of our adult education practitioners and rely on them for Teacher Verification Models. Teachers can also verify or check with learners about the time they've reported being online by asking questions.

01:33:26
YAY for LINCS!!!!

01:34:07
That will be amazing! Thank you Jen & the EdTech Center!! :)

01:34:17
David is at least two people, just sayin’

01:34:30
Thank you so much for the link Helaine. Very useful

01:34:31
So true! I don’t think he sleeps

01:34:36
:)

01:34:45
PA only allows our teachers to use Khan, WIN, and USALearns because they document time.

01:34:45
It feels that way these days Helaine!

01:35:03
Thank you!!
